Today marks the first day of AmeriCorps week 2013, AmeriCorps week is a time to salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their service, thank AmeriCorps community partners, and communicate AmeriCorps impact on communities and on the lives of those who serve.
This year’s theme, AmeriCorps Works, reflects AmeriCorps triple bottom line return on investment – for the recipients of service, the people who serve, and the larger community and nation. Celebrating the 800,000 men and women who have taken the AmeriCorps pledge and the billions of hours of service they’ve dedicated to make America stronger.
Hundreds of events are taking place across the United States service projects, recruitment fairs, school presentations, alumni gatherings, awards ceremonies, and more.
In Delaware festivities begin Monday March 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. AmreiCorps members and volunteers will work with Sussex Habitat for Humanity, on a build project in Laural, DE. Directions to the build.
Tuesday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Caring Corps will host a service event assisting the homeless at Samaritan Outreach and Distribution Center, 1410 North Claymont Street, Wilmington, DE. Directions
Wednesday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Emergency Services Corps will host a clean up the Cranston Heights Fire Company at 3306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
Thursday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Youth Ambassadors Program is sponsoring a number of projects including painting murals, building picnic tables and general clean-up of Central Middle School, 211 Delaware Avenue, Dover, DE. Directions
Friday, March 14 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Totally Awesome Players event will bring volunteers together to spread the word around the Wilmington community about the local theater program for young people with intellectual disabilities.
